How To Rank Any eCom Brand With These Action Steps
How To Rank Any eCommerce Business
To Generate Targeted Traffic & Sales
eCommerce businesses are blooming right now as opposed to most niche sites struggling to rank in the top 3.
Why does Google love eCommerce brands?
They are real brands with E-E-A-T signals (They typically have pages like about us, careers, PR page, contact info, reviews etc)
eCommerce brands are more likely to spend money on ads (Google Shopping, text ads, display ads etc).
But you still have to rank it by following SEO best practices, right?
Here’s what we’ve been doing for our eCom clients for years.
Some steps are basic, and some are a little out of the box.
But they simply work.
Here’s what you should do to rank any eCom biz:
Optimize Category and Product Descriptions:
Write content at the top of category pages, keeping it brief and relevant.
For product descriptions, consider the customer's awareness level. Be informative and unique. Work your copywriting magic and compel the prospect to click and read.
On-Site Optimization:
Prioritize pages using analytics.
Optimize image alt tags, H1s, SEO titles, and meta descriptions.
Use predictable templates for product and category pages.
E-commerce Site Architecture:
Ensure a shallow crawl depth. eCom brands often times have a ton of product pages, so you’ll have to keep track of which pages deserve most priority.
Organize products into relevant categories and subcategories. Add bread crumbs.
Use clear and simple URL structures.
Create canonical URLs to make sure that Google knows which pages to rank.
Often times, your eCom site creates multiple URL variations based on product variations, and it confuses the hell out of the algorithm.
Shopify sites are known for this issue. Make sure to add a canonical tag on the product page and add the master URL that should be ranked.
Internal Linking:
Use navigational and contextual links.
Link products horizontally based on relevance.
Create a blog targeting long-tail keywords.
Backlink Strategy:
Use tools like Ahrefs to analyze competitors' backlinks.
Engage in digital PR and use platforms like HARO.
Offer free products to potential linkers.
Add an affiliate program, and reach out to niche sites in your industry to promote your brand. Not only do you get a backlink but also potential customers.
Modest Anchor Text Strategy:
Check your anchor text distribution.
Aim for a natural mix of branded, generic, and keyword-rich anchor texts.
No fancy tool or “hack” will beat these steps to rank.
These are the proper essential steps that will do the job for you.
Don’t take it lightly.
To your success,
